"All ministry with adolescents must be directed toward presenting young people with the Good News of Jesus Christ and inviting and challenging them to become his disciples...  If we are to succeed, we must offer young people a spiritually challenging and world-shaping vision that meets their hunger for the chance to participate in a worthy adventure."

Are You Planning a Trip to World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid?

In 2011 Spain will host World Youth Day for the second time. Due to the huge success of World Youth Day, the event will now be held at an interval of every three years.  2011 feels like a long way off, but it’s not if you are planning to take youth and young adult pilgrims to WYD Madrid.  At this time, the Youth & Young Adult Ministry and CYO Office is not planning a Diocesan trip, but we would like to know if your parish or school is planning one.  More...

"Will Our Kids Have Faith?"

Find out more about the exciting new initiative that our office is offering with the Marriage and Family Office as a service to all parishes.  This presentation is for parents with the primary goal of supporting their efforts to actively live and share their faith with their children and in their families.  The workshop is based on the recent National Study of Youth and Religion (NSYR) that led to the book titled Soul Searching.  Our staff has received exceptional training for this interactive workshop and we are pleased to offer it to you without cost for parent sacramental meetings, school faculty meetings, staff or professional training, and more.  “Will Our Kids Have Faith” (W.O.K.H.F.) workshops work best in a 2-hour time slot, but can be done in 90 minutes. Visit W.O.K.H.F. site

CRS – Operation Rice Bowl

Operation Rice Bowl is the Lenten solidarity program of Catholic Relief Services. Just as we celebrate the Eucharist on Sundays, we can use Operation Rice Bowl throughout Lent as a way to “break bread” together with family and loved ones. Since 1975, Catholics in the United States have put their faith into action by participating in ORB. Your participation is an act of solidarity with our brothers and sisters in need. Catholic Relief Services is committed to the belief that solidarity will transform the world.

For more information on Operation Rice Bowl and to order the FREE materials call 1-800-222-0025 or visit http://orb.crs.org.

RESOURCE HIGHLIGHT - Living and Loving Our Catholic Faith—Saints: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow The communion of Saints and our traditions surrounding them are one of the distinct Catholic identity markers.  However, many Catholics—young and old alike—have little understanding of the “rules” of sainthood, the types of saints, and many other aspects of saints.   Published by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, Living and Loving our Catholic Faith: Saints—Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow is the second in the Living and Loving series. It is a resource for youth ministry leaders intended to inform, form and transform young people and their leaders in their understanding and engagement of the Catholic traditions, theology and pastoral involvement on the subject of Saints.  To order from the NFCYM Online Store, click here.

Adolescents and Faith Formation: An Evangelizing Catechesis:

The Bishops of the U.S. have identified catechesis as one of their top 4 priority areas in their 2008 – 2011 Strategic Plan. Within catechesis there is considerable attention being given to adolescent catechesis. Bishop Lennon has expressed his desire as chief catechist of the Cleveland Diocese to determine how adolescents can know what they need to know to more fully live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. The Offices of Catechetical Services and the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry & CYO have entered into a dialog to consider the vision, goals, strategies, and implementation of this effort.   To find out more about significant national developments and what youth ministry and catechetical leaders need to do, click here

Notre Dame Vision is committed to helping young people recognize God's call in their lives and respond to that call with courage and faith.

In 2010, high school students from across the nation will join together at the University of Notre Dame to ask important questions about life, faith, their own gifts, and the ways in which we are each called to be the change we want to see in the world.  For more information, click here.

Catholic Youth Leadership for Service and Justice

The Youth and Young Adult Ministry & CYO and the Commission on Catholic Community Action, both part of Catholic Charities Health and Human Services, recognized the need to more fully integrate youth ministry and the teaching of Catholic Social Teaching in order to improve the formation of adolescent Catholics and increase the number and quality of future Catholic lay leaders.
