FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

(about CYO day camps)

How are children assigned to camp groups?

We use and age-group/grade-based system to assign campers to groups.  There may be some overlap in the age groups.

This will be my child’s first camp experience, may we take a ride to camp to look around at the layout of the camp?  You are most welcome to visit the CYO Camps.  An Open House is scheduled on the Thursday evening before week one.  This is an excellent opportunity to get an ‘official tour’, meet the staff and see the program set-up and ready for action.

Does my child have to be Catholic to attend CYO Camp?

No, although many of the campers and staff are Catholic.  We celebrate our faith throughout the week in a variety of ways:  Prayer before and after meals, intentional value based camp activities, and a weekly prayer service.  We offer no formal religious training.

Can my child call me or contact me throughout the day?  Telephones are not available to campers.  However, we will call you if there is an emergency or urgent need to contact you.

Is transportation to camp available? Not at this time.  Parents must arrange for program drop-off and pick-up.

Does the camp provide lunch?   Campers attending any of our sites must bring a lunch everyday or an item for the cookout when assigned.

Is financial aid available?  CYO has limited resources available to assist qualifying families with the cost of one week of camp.  Call the CYO Registrar for an application.

What happens after I send in the registration form?  CYO will send out a confirmation packet that includes a parent handbook, a camper health history form, a program information form, a confidential statistical analysis form, and verification of weeks registered.

When are payments due?  All weeks registered for must be pre-paid prior to the session start date.  Payments on your balance due may begin as soon as you receive your confirmation packet.

What if I have to cancel a session (week)?    CYO Camping Programs operate on a first come first serve basis. If you do have to cancel a week please notify us as soon as possible so that we can offer the space to another camper.  When necessary, we do maintain a waiting list.  You are financially responsible for all weeks registered. If you should need to cancel or change weeks, please notify the registrar at least two weeks prior.  Failure to do so will result in your financial responsibility for that week.  The registrar can be reached by phone or email.  If CYO cancels the program, all fees paid will be refunded.  Telling a camp counselor or site/program director is not sufficient or acceptable as notification of your intention to add/drop/change weeks and doing so, will result in you being held financially responsible for that week.
