Youth & Young Adult Ministry and CYO Office

Statement of Mission

Black Catholic Input, a part of the Diocesan Youth & Young Adult Ministry and CYO Office, aims to serve the Church by promoting  and fostering a positive Black Catholic identity among Black youth and young adults within the Diocese of Cleveland.

We are called to enable Black youth and young adults to live the Gospel through a personal relationship with Jesus.  We work to facilitate the interaction of adult with adult, adult with youth, and youth with youth.  Because youth and young adults "are" the Church of Today as well as the Church of Tomorrow.  We endeavor to support the life and growth of Black youth and young adults and those who minister to them.

In responding to this call, Black Catholic Input will recruit and organize Black youth and young adults, who look to the Roman Catholic tradition for direction and support, and provide Leadership Development for them.  We will share our common beliefs and values, serve the community of the Church through varied activities, and actively work toward building a lasting harmony among all people.

WORD...the sharing with others of the Good News of God's love and salvation as shown to us in Jesus.

WORSHIP...building and celebrating the relationship of God and His people.

CREATING COMMUNITY...building new paths of communication and providing opportunities for sharing and identification as one of God's own.

JUSTICE & SERVICE...extending the kingdom of God in the world through service and action on behalf of justice.

GUIDANCE & HEALING...responding to the needs of youth and young adults for spiritual and personal counseling, for vocational guidance, and for reconciliation that heals alienation.

ENABLEMENT...involves a relationship of trust and challenge in which both adults and youth are led to new growth and self-confidence and can actively participate in the work of the Church.

ADVOCACY...listening, caring and interpreting on behalf of Black youth and young adults.

Key to this response is an awareness and recognition of the natural and spiritual talents of Black Catholic youth and young adults.  Although Black Catholic Input is a multi-faith group, it will maintain a Black Catholic purpose.
