Parents
Welcome to CYO Athletics. We are pleased that you have chosen CYO Athletics as your child’s athletic program. CYO Athletics provides an exceptional opportunity for your child to learn new skills, have fun, be with their friends and be physically active. Athletics is part of our daily lives – striving to be the best we can be requires each child to learn and compete at their own pace.
The competitive spirit is learned, starting with those early, character-shaping years. Competition is within the human spirit, waiting to be nurtured and developed positively for life’s lessons. CYO’s mandatory participation rules assure that every child will have an opportunity to participate in every game. See our sport web pages for specific participation rules.
Child’s Eligibility
Your child’s eligibility in CYO Athletics is important to us. The Pre-Participation form is located on the right. It requires a physician’s signature, which is valid for 13 months. The Eligibility Request Form, commonly referred to as an ERF, must be completed when your child wants to participate on a team in which they are not a parishioner or attend the school in which they are not enrolled. This form must be completed with all the appropriate signatures and given to your coach or parish athletic director so then can submit them to the CYO office for review and approval by the season entry deadlines. You can access the ERF form in the right column. As your child gets older, you may want more information about high school eligibility and recruitment which you can view on the right.
Parents as Teachers
CYO Athletics is proud that coaches and parents comprise of a team that is trying to achieve and improve every child’s experience into their personal best. You, as parents, are the primary teachers of your children. Your positive example and actions at the game are an integral part of your role as sports parents. Parents are expected to respect the Dignity of every athlete and use a positive approach that involves praise and encouragement for the effort displayed instead of the final outcome. The Parent’s Code of Conduct reminds us how to be respectful at a game. You can find this Code on your Parents drop down menu.
