Coaches
Welcome to CYO Athletics! At the heart of our programs is the Coach! Every coach has an amazing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people. The coach is a teacher of values, skills and life’s lessons. Being a coach is a privilege, a challenge and a responsibility. It is an invitation to serve God and God’s children!
Your Role
The role of the coach begins by helping young people grow and develop from an inexperienced athlete into tomorrow’s leaders. You accomplish this by modeling Christ-like behaviors as you share experiences with your athletes, patiently teaching skills to all levels of athletes, and treating players with Dignity. Your coaching style, philosophy and personal qualities are instrumental toward helping young people be more Christ-like in they way they live. Your positive guidance can make a difference in their lives. Families entrust you with their child’s care.
Coaches Development Program
Each coach is required to attend the Coaches Development Program (CDP), the Virtus program and have a background check. You can acquire your coaching credentials after you attend the Coaches Development Program. You can register for the program now before your sport season begins by clicking the link on the right.
Mandatory Meetings
The CYO staff conducts mandatory pre-season Coaches Meetings. View document link on right. These organizational meetings are very informative and will better prepare you for the upcoming season. The staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Eligibility
The eligibility of your team and accuracy of your roster are critical to a successful season. Please cooperate with your Pastoral Designee when preparing your Team Eligibility Roster information, Eligibility Request Form (ERF), and Pre-Participation Forms. The Eligibility Request Form, commonly referred to as (ERF), must be completed when a child wants to participate on a team in which they are not a parishioner or attend the school in which they are not enrolled. This form must be completed with all the appropriate signatures and given to your pastoral designee so then can submit them to the CYO office for review and approval by the season entry deadlines. CYO highly encourages you to conduct a Pre-Season Parent’s Meeting to review team sports information and paperwork required.
Sportsmanship
Once the season begins, all eyes will be upon the coach! Respect for your opponents, the decisions of the officials and your players are reflective of your character. Sportsmanship begins with you and your example is something your athletes mimic. When you make the effort to be the best you are capable of becoming, you build character. Coaches influence their players and their families long after they end their CYO experience.
Make a Difference! Touch a life! May God guide you along this journey.
