The Parmadale Institute is a 100,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that provides a modern, safe, and secure residential and behavioral health treatment environment for adolescents.

In the ninth decade of its existence, Parmadale’s wooded, tranquil campus rings with life and hope, continuing to serve families and youth most at risk and in need. The Parmadale Institute is located in Parma, a suburb of Cleveland.

In the summer of 2009, Parmadale’s original Tudor-style cottages were replaced by the Parmadale Institute, a 100,000 square foot residential treatment center specifically designed to serve and treat adolescents with the most intensive behavioral health needs.  The Parmadale Institute is a state-of-the-art facility which also offers pathfinding behavioral health treatment services provided by highly trained and licensed professional staff.  Youth who have been impacted by profound trauma, act out aggressively due to their mental health needs, are chemically dependent, have attempted suicide, or display self-injurious behavior are served within the Institute.

The Parmadale Institute provides secure residential treatment services for up to 80 youth.  These include intense behavioral health services for male adolescents, female adolescents, and a co-ed population.  An intensive, secure male adolescent program with co-occurring disorders (chemical dependency and mental health disorders), specialized services for adolescents with intellectual and developmental disorders, and a highly-structured transitional program are also offered.

The Parmadale Institute uses its STEPS Toward a Life Worth Living© Therapeutic Model to meet clients' behavioral health needs using current best-practices in the field.  Specially trained mental health professionals use this model to build new life skills, address issues of trauma and emotional regulation, further develop relationships with family, and treat issues of drug abuse and dependency.

In addition to intensive and specialized residential treatment, the Parmadale Institute provides in-patient diagnostic assessment and acute behavior stabilization services.  These services are designed to quickly return adolescents with acute behavior health needs back to their home and community support systems.

For all residential clients, individualized education programs, including those designed for adolescents with special educational needs, are provided in a highly structured in-unit school setting. An on-site teacher and aide coordinate the school curriculum based on each youth’s academic needs. GED testing is available. All educational services at Parmadale are provided by the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County.

Parmadale is more than a residential treatment provider. A highly skilled professional workforce also brings Parmadale’s services to the community with initiatives including adoption and foster care services, in-home behavioral health treatment, outpatient services, and school-based therapeutic interventions.

The Parmadale Institute is licensed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health.  Parmadale's foster care, adoption, and other residential services are licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.  Parmadale's behavioral health and chemical dependency services are certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services.
