CYO Athletics Website

Purpose: An integral part of youth ministry, CYO Athletics fosters the spiritual growth of youth by providing: athletic programs that promote Christian values; an avenue to be part of a team that builds a sense of community which nurtures and stresses positive social interaction; and an opportunity to play in an atmosphere where skills are developed and "sportsmanship and participation is the name of the game". CYO Athletic programs offer boys and girls in Catholic parishes, schools or institutions cheerleading, football, soccer, volleyball, cross country, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, track and field.

Population Served: Boys and girls, grades 4-12.

Criteria: Youth that are members of a Catholic church or enrolled in a Catholic school are eligible to participate.

Fees: Fees vary according to sport offered.

Purpose: To provide services to persons with cognitive and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD) and those who are deaf, blind or have mental illness.

Population Served: Persons with cognitive and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD); those who are deaf, blind and/or have mental illness.

Criteria: Service available to all persons of all ages, race, or religious beliefs.

Fees: Fees vary with program or service provided.

Camp Happiness

Purpose: To provide a summer day camp for persons with cognitive and other developmental disabilities.

Population Served: Individuals with cognitive and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD).

Criteria: Individuals aged 5 -21 with cognitive and other developmental disabilities.

Fees: $1,932 for seven-week program.

Continuing Adult Education

Purpose: To meet the continuing educational needs of adults with cognitive and other developmental disabilities.

Population Served: Individuals with cognitive and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD).

Criteria: Individuals aged 21+ with cognitive and other developmental disabilities.

Fees: Monthly tuition of $88, plus one-time materials fee of $60.

Dances and Social Events

Purpose: To offer persons with cognitive and other developmental disabilities an opportunity to form friendships and learn social skills by providing monthly dances and social gatherings.

Population Served: Individuals with cognitive and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD).

Criteria: Individuals aged 16+ with cognitive and other developmental disabilities.

Fees: $3.00 per event.

The Catholic Hunger and Shelter Network collaborates with other religious institutions and public and private agencies across the eight counties of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland to ensure that basic needs, such as food and shelter, are met for those who are most vulnerable. In an effort to prevent homelessness, Catholic Charities provides basic needs assistance (rent, utility assistance, clothing, prescription medication and/or documents verifying personal identity.

Purpose: To provide a daytime Drop-in Center, offering hot meals, shower facilities (with hygiene products and clean underwear) and basic needs assistance for rent and utilities, when available; also offers an emergency Pantry Program and is a mail distribution site for those with no permanent address.

Population Served: Homeless, working poor, unemployed, as well as senior citizens on fixed incomes.

Criteria: Pantry Program – must be registered and live within 44114-44115 zipcode area.Emergency Assistance – income criteria, other documentation required by funding agents.

Fees: There is no charge for this program.

Basic Needs Assistance

Purpose: To prevent homelessness by providing rent and utility assistance; to ensure that those unable to afford basic necessities (clothing, prescription medication, and/or documents verifying personal identification) have access to items necessary to their overall well-being.

Population Served: Men, women, and children who are homeless, near homeless, or otherwise unable to meet basic needs (working poor, senior citizens on fixed incomes)

Criteria: Income guidelines: 200% of poverty; household income sufficient for ongoing sustainability; some government funds are designated for households with minor children.

Fees: None

Major Funders: Catholic Charities Annual Appeal; Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Food and Shelter; TANF (as available)


Catholic Hunger and Shelter Network

Purpose: To collaborate with others across the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland (religious institutions, public and private agencies) to ensure that the basic needs (food/shelter) of the most vulnerable are met.

Population Served: Men, women and children who are homeless, near homeless or otherwise unable to meet basic needs (working poor, senior citizens on fixed income).

Criteria: Pantry recipients are required to register at site; Sites are required to verify low income status.

Fees: None

Purpose: The Department defines itself first as ministry: that is, with services and programs that have faith as their foundation and Christ as their goal. Our mission is to respond to the needs of families through the development of pastoral programs, administered through parish and community leaders, as articulated by the teachings of the Catholic Church on marriage and family concerns.

As part of Catholic Charities Health and Human Services, the Department exists within a wider continuum of services to families and individuals, and works in collaboration with all agencies, offices, and persons that further its mission.

  • To articulate a vision of family ministry that reflects the teachings of the Catholic Church and to share in the teaching ministry of the Bishop of Cleveland.
  • To continue to develop and grow as a department by listening to the voices of the Church to gain an understanding of the constantly changing needs of the family.
  • To lead and facilitate the development of specific, effective, and professional programs of family ministry in the diocese.
  • To empower parishes to develop a family perspective that reflects a Christian vision of the family, understands the family and its members as it develops through life, respects the diversity of family structures and needs, and supports families in addressing their concerns.
  • To collaborate with other diocesan offices and agencies, with parish ministers, and with other dioceses on programs and initiatives affecting family life.

Purpose: To promote the integration of persons with disabilities into Church and Society; to develop their gifts so that they can assume leadership and ministerial roles.

Population Served: Persons with cognitive and other developmental disabilities (MR/DD) and those who are deaf, blind or mentally ill.

Criteria: A person must be diagnosed as mentally ill or be a family member of an individual diagnosed with mental illness and/or professionals and volunteers who serve persons with mental illness. Fees: Minimal fees vary.

Pastoral Care Services & Health Affairs

Purpose: The Bishop has asked Catholic Charities to assist him with Pro Life Activities for the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland; therefore, The Pro Life Office operates within Catholic Charities Health and Human Services. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and their Pastoral Plan for Pro Life Activities guide this office and its responsibilities.

In adherence to this plan, our approach is grounded in the consistent ethic of life. We seek to educate, minister, train and serve the community in upholding the sanctity of life, always faithful to the fullness of the Church teaching including the consistent ethic of life.

Purpose: The Youth Ministry Program provides opportunities to draw young people into the life and mission of the Catholic faith and civic communities by educating and informing adults who work with young people; providing quality programs, trainings, consultations, and other resources that promote comprehensive ministry to youth. The Young Adult Ministry is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the vital role women and men, in their 20’s and 30’s, single and/or married, play in the church and the wider community by connecting young adults with Jesus Christ, the Church and its mission, and with other young adults. CYO Athletics offer boys and girls in Catholic parishes, schools or institutions opportunities to participate in numerous sports, including football, soccer, volleyball, cross country; basketball, wrestling, cheerleading, baseball, track and field.

Population Served: Youth: Kindergarten through high school age
Young Adults: males and females, single and/or married between the ages of 18 – 30
Adults who work with youth in parish settings
