Catholic Charities Community Services Summit County offers a unique blend of programming to address the societal needs of the young, disabled, elderly, and poor. A community-based partnership of staff, volunteers, and parishes allows our programs to reach participants throughout Summit County.
Catholic Charities Community Services Summit County is proud to serve our Akron area youth through athletics, Camp Christopher, youth ministry, and youth enrichment. Additional support is provided to seniors through adult day services, home service projects, as well as programs for individuals with mental and physical disabilities.

Adult Day Services
Purpose: To provide programs designed to improve physical, mental and spiritual health, with the ultimate goal of helping older adults maintain their independence.
Population Served: Older adults who need help with basic living skills or require supervision due to cognitive decline, diminished abilities, or functional limitations.
Criteria: Must participate in assessment process. All participants must have a current TB test, and must be able to stand or pivot with assistance
Fees: Financial assistance available for those who qualify. PASSPORT, Care Coordination, Ohio Home Care Waiver, Veteran’s Benefits and other supportive programs accepted. Please call for details.
Major Funders: Catholic Charities Annual Appeal, United Way of Summit County, Area Agency on Aging, CSBMR/DD, Department of Job and Family Services, Ohio Child and Adult Care Food Program, Louis Stokes Cleveland VAMC, private foundations, and individual contributions
CYO Athletics
Purpose: Has been providing young people with the opportunity to experience social, physical, mental, and emotional growth through participation in a variety of sports for over 70 years.
Population Served: Boys and girls in grades 1-12
Criteria: Parents must be registered members of the parish or participants must attend a parochial school
Fees: Varies by sport

Purpose:Camp Christopher
Located in Bath, Ohio, Camp Christopher is committed to the growth and development of campers through quality programming structured for traditional camping as well as Family Camp, Specialty Camps (serving persons with disabilities or other health impairments), Environmental Education and Leadership Training Programs.
Population Served:Resident camp - Children ages 6-16
Day camp - Children ages 5-13, Adults with disabilities, families, seniors
Criteria:Strives to provide programming inclusive of all persons.
Fees: Resident camp- $385/per week Horse camp - $450/week
Day camp - $155/per week, plus $10 for camp transportation

Home Service Project
Purpose: To provide light home and yard maintenance services to low-income older adults
Population Served:Residents of Akron.
Criteria:Homeowner must be age 60 years or older and have current homeowners insurance.

Recreational Respite Program
Purpose:To provide families of persons with developmental disabilities with a break from the 24-hour daily responsibilities of care and supervision.
Population Served:Adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities.
Criteria:Must be eligible for services through their local Developmental Disabilities Board and be able to participate successfully at a supervision ratio of one staff for every four participants.
Fees: Approximately $12.00 per hour. Family resource funds may be available for assistance; Medicaid Waiver dollars may offset expenses.

Sumfun
Purpose:To provide young persons with special needs, a five-week summer day-camping experience. Transportation is available for most participants.
Population Served:Youth ages 5-21 with disabilities
Criteria:Youth should be eligible for services through their local County Board of Mental Retardation.
Fees: $1500 for all five weeks. Sliding fee scale for Summit County Residents. Residents of other counties are often able to arrange to have their School or County Board of Mental Retardation pay all or a part of their fees.

Youth Enrichment Program
Purpose:To provide inner-city youth tutoring, recreation and character development activities after school.
Population Served:Akron area at-risk youth in the 5th-8th grades.
Criteria:Students attending 5th-8th grade, residing in Akron.
Fees:None
Major Funders:Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, The United Way of Summit County, private donations
Youth Ministry
Purpose:To recruit and train youth ministers and provide youth retreats and service opportunities.
Population Served:Youth and young adults residing in the parishes in the Southern Region of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland (Summit, Wayne, Ashland and Medina).
Criteria:Youth 15-18 years of age
Fees:Vary according to program.
