Established as the Board of Charities by Bishop John P. Farrelly in 1912, Catholic Charities Corporation was officially incorporated in 1919 and still today raises needed funding, primarily by conducting the annual Catholic Charities Appeal, in support of the health and human service needs of the people of the Diocese of Cleveland. The Catholic Charities Corporation in conjunction with the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland Foundation conducts the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal in Catholic Churches and among the Catholic faithful of the Diocese of Cleveland. In 2011 the Appeal raised close to $11 million in pledges and $1.5 million in bequest and trust income for Catholic Charities’ programs and services.
The 2012 Catholic Charities Annual is an opportunity to change the lives of others and take an active part in caring for all of God’s people, regardless of their religion, social or economic backgrounds. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal in our diocese. For the past century, Catholic Charities has unceasingly worked to meet the challenges of hunger, unemployment, homelessness, disabilities, addictions and isolation. With over 150 programs in more than 60 locations, we continue to give hope to people in cities and suburbs across northeast Ohio. Our strong history, our dedicated volunteers and our generous donors – these are the reasons we celebrate 100 years. To hear inspiring stories from our donors and volunteers, Click here.
